The surgical procedure for the complete removal of a natural eye is known as enucleation, while the procedure for removing the contents of the eye is called evisceration. Both procedures necessitate prosthetic restoration, which typically starts around six weeks after the initial surgery. The fitting of the prosthetic eye involves an ocularist creating an impression mold or using advanced fitting techniques to precisely shape the anophthalmic socket. These methods are employed to ensure the prosthesis achieves the best possible appearance, comfort, and mobility.

SCLERAL SHELLS

A scleral cover shell prosthesis is a lightweight artificial eye made to fit over a discolored or disfigured eye. This prosthesis completely covers the affected eye, helping to restore its natural look.
